Deze cursus is voor jou als je…
This course is for you if you…
- are starting Dutch from scratch — or close to it;
- can follow along in English while we build your Dutch;
- like and are capable of learning independently, and have the will and discipline to study between classes. It's once a week, so you'll get homework, and most of your Dutch grows at home, in your own time; preparing for each lesson well - lifts the whole group, and A1 by December is well within reach;
- can set aside around two hours a week for that, in your free time, with a laptop & internet;
- enjoy the challenge of learning a new language, and are willing to take it seriously;
- plan to be in Haarlem a while, and want it to start feeling like home.
Wat je eigenlijk leert
What you'll actually learn
We teach grammar in the context of real life. You'll leave able to handle the everyday moments that make up life here — and with the real foundations of the language underneath, so you can keep building on your own.
Handle the moments that matter
Connect with people
- • Introduce yourself — greet, say goodbye, and spell your name out loud.
- • Make small talk — ask how someone's doing and describe the people around you.
- • Make plans — suggest something, agree or politely decline, and set a time.
Get through your day
- • Order and pay at a café or restaurant — and say thanks like a local.
- • Shop at the market and in stores — say what you want, ask the price, talk size and fit.
- • Share an opinion — say what you like, what you don't, and handle the tip.
Settle in here
- • Tell the time and dates — and make an appointment.
- • Find a place to live — talk housing with a makelaar.
- • Visit the doctor — describe how you feel to the huisarts.
And get the Dutch itself right
Sound more Dutch
Master the sounds that trip everyone up — the long aa, oo, uu and ee, the ij and ui, and those tricky word endings — so people understand you the first time, not the third.
Build your own sentences
Go from single words to real sentences — ask a question, give an answer, and put the words in the order Dutch actually uses. The grammar arrives quietly, one useful piece at a time.
Know the words you'll use
Walk away with a solid core of the most useful everyday Dutch — greetings, numbers, time, food and drink, clothes, the home, the body — the words you reach for every single day.
